Volunteer Program

The Botswana-Baylor COE has utilized volunteers ever since its opening in 2003. The volunteer program became official after the position of Volunteer Coordinator was created in June of 2009. The purpose of the volunteer program is too provide auxiliary services at the clinic that will increase the health and well-being of the patients and their caregivers

The volunteer program includes a Morning Play Group for children ages 6-12 who are waiting for their doctor's appointment. The goal of the Play Group (held every morning, Monday through Friday) is to provide a healthy and fun learning experience for the children, with an average of 20 children and 4 volunteers in attendance each day.

Plans for enriching the program include adding components on dental hygiene education, art appreciation, encouragement of reading, continued emphasis on exercise and healthy eating, and development of a tutorial program for COE patients needing additional educational instruction.
