Houston - The first annual Houston AIDS Film Festival will kick off Tuesday, March 30, and continue through Friday, April 2, in support of AIDS Awareness Week. AIDS Awareness Week is organized nationally by Physicians for Human Rights.
All the films are award winning international documentaries, and are being screened for the first time in Houston. Several are official Sundance selections. The film festival is the first of its kind in the Southwest.
Proceeds from the film festival will benefit the Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative, a provider of education, research and public service programs in Houston, Romania, Mexico and southern Africa.
Support for the Houston film festival has been provided by Abbott Laboratories, the American Medical Association and the American Medical Student Association.
The films will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Aurora Picture Show on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and at the Rice Media Center on Wednesday. More information is available online at www.bayloraids.org/film. Tickets are $7 per night and can be purchased at the door or online at www.bayloraids.org/film.
